A long time ago, in a village at the edge of a forest, there lived a girl named Mira.
לפני זמן רב, בכפר בקצה היער, חיה ילדה בשם מירה.
Mira was not tall and she was not strong, but she was very kind.
מירה לא הייתה גבוהה ולא חזקה, אבל היא הייתה מאוד אדיבה.
Every evening, her grandmother gave her a small lantern.
כל ערב, סבתה נתנה לה פנס קטן.
The lantern had a warm yellow light.
לפנס היה אור צהוב חמים.
Mira carried it to the edge of the village and hung it on an old wooden post.
מירה נשאה אותו לקצה הכפר ותלתה אותו על עמוד עץ ישן.
Why do we do this every night?
למה אנחנו עושים את זה כל לילה?
Mira asked.
מירה שאלה.
Her grandmother smiled.
