A long time ago, in a village at the edge of a forest, there lived a girl named Mira.
Sen senos laikos, ciematā meža malā, dzīvoja meitene vārdā Mira.
Mira was not tall and she was not strong, but she was very kind.
Mira nebija gara un nebija stipra, bet viņa bija ļoti laipna.
Every evening, her grandmother gave her a small lantern.
Katru vakaru vecmāmiņa viņai dāvināja mazu laternu.
The lantern had a warm yellow light.
Laternai bija silta dzeltena gaisma.
Mira carried it to the edge of the village and hung it on an old wooden post.
Mira to aiznesa līdz ciema malai un pakāra uz veca koka staba.
Why do we do this every night?
Kāpēc mēs to darām katru nakti?
Mira asked.
Mira jautāja.
Her grandmother smiled.
Viņas vecmāmiņa pasmaidīja.
