Maya finished her work at the community garden early on Friday afternoon. The sun was shining brightly in the clear blue sky. She usually took the standard bus route to her apartment every day. The old bus route was reliable, but it was often very boring. Today, she felt adventurous and wanted to try something different. A colleague had recently mentioned a pleasant walking path through the city. It is a great shortcut, her friend had told her with a smile. Maya packed her cotton backpack and put on her comfortable canvas shoes. She stepped out onto the busy sidewalk with a happy heart. At the first corner, she turned right instead of walking toward the bus stop. The new street was lined with tall oak trees and colorful flowers.
