A long time ago, in a village at the edge of a forest, there lived a girl named Mira.

Mira was not tall and she was not strong, but she was very kind.
Mira n’était pas grande et pas forte, mais elle était très gentille.
Every evening, her grandmother gave her a small lantern.
Chaque soir, sa grand-mère lui offrait une petite lanterne.
The lantern had a warm yellow light.
La lanterne avait une lumière jaune chaude.
Mira carried it to the edge of the village and hung it on an old wooden post.
Mira l’a portée jusqu’à la lisière du village et l’a accrochée à un vieux poteau en bois.
Why do we do this every night?

Mira asked.
