The Lantern and the Little Fox

A long time ago, in a village at the edge of a forest, there lived a girl named Mira.

ずっと昔、森の端にある村に、ミラという少女が住んでいた。

Mira was not tall and she was not strong, but she was very kind.

ミラは背が高くなく、力もなかったが、とても優しかった。

Every evening, her grandmother gave her a small lantern.

毎晩、祖母は小さなランタンを贈ってくれた。

The lantern had a warm yellow light.

ランタンは暖かい黄色い光を放っていた。

Mira carried it to the edge of the village and hung it on an old wooden post.

ミラはそれを村の端まで運び、古い木の柱に掛けた。

Why do we do this every night?

なぜ毎晩こんなことをするの?

Mira asked.

ミラが尋ねた。

Her grandmother smiled.

祖母は微笑んだ。
